Bitter gourd Fry

Bitter gourd is helpful in fighting aginst infections and provide relief from constipation.It is also helps in reducing sugar levels.It has many nutrition values.
  • Bitter gourd : 5
  • Onion : 1 big
  • Tamarind: 1/2 lemon size
  • Curd : 2 Tb sp
  • Turmeric
  • Jaggery: 3 Tb sp
  • Cumin seeds : 1 t sp
  • Red Chili powder
  • Oil
  • Salt


  • Chop bitter gourd into small circle shape. In kadai, add curd and dilute with 3 cups of water.Now add turmeric and tamerind to this water.
  • Keep water mixture on stove and add bitter gourd peices.This process is done to take off bitterness from bitter gourd.
  • Let it cook for 15-20 min.Make sure that they are cooked only 3/4th.
  • Now let it cool for sometime.Completely squeeze water from the peices.
  • In a wide nonstick pan, add 10Tb sp of oil.Then add bitter gourd peices and fry them.
  • In the mean time chop onion.When the peices are 1/2 fried add onion.
  • When onions are fried, add salt, besan powder, red chili powder and jaggery,cumin seeds.Mix well.

Serve with rice.

Mamidikaya Pappu\Mango Dal

Mango Dal, an all time favourite to most of the people.Add a drumstick to this Dal gives extra flavour and nice taste.

  • Raw mango : 1
  • Toor Dal : 1 cup
  • Onion: 1 Small(optional)
  • Drumstick: 1(optional)
  • Green chilies : 2
  • Red Chilli powder : 2 Tb sp
  • Salt
  • Hing
  • Oil
  • All ingredients of Tadaka
  • Curry leaves


  • Pressure cook Dal with 2 cups of water.In the mean time chop mango,onion,green chilies,drum stick.
  • In a kadai, add 1 cup water, chopped mango and other pieces and let it cook.(You can cook these pieces along with Dal in a separate vessel)If you combine mango and Dal it may not cook properly due to soreness of mango.So to avoid that cook Dal and mango pieces separately.
  • When pieces are 3/4th cooked, add Dal, turmeric and let it cook.After some time add enough salt,red chili powder.
  • In another vessel prepare tadaka, add hing and curry leaves.Add this to cooked Dal.

Serve with rice, few drops of ghee and papad or vuru mirapakayalu.
